To celebrate The City of Barrie's 150th year, Burnett's and Struth the premier kilt and tartan suppliers in Canada were honoured to receive the commission to produce a tartan for their home city. Burnett's worked with the manufacturers Lochcarron. taking inspiration from the Barrie Coat of Arms which reflect the source of the City's name, Sir Robert Barrie. Head of the Canadian Navy at the beginning of the 19th century. Much of the city crest was taken from the Arms of Sir Robert which was suitably adopted to reflect the two main sources of prosperity and reason for the city's existence. The primary colours included in the Tartan highlight the towns history and reason for it's existence. The City has always been a major centre of agriculture with gold representing Ceres the Goddess of Harvest. Grey and Black indicate the market cross square . Red from Sir Robert's Crest. White for her seasonal snows, and blue signifying the importance of Kempenfelt Bay and Lake Simcoe Responsible for Barrie's second most important contribution to its economy transportation, being strategically positioned both by water and land.
