Middleton Modern tartan is a simple bottle green and red tartan. Middleton Modern is a classic green-based tartan with a red check. Middleton of Conveth is the source of this name. Malcolm Middleton received a charter of the lands of Middleton from King William the Lion of Scotland. The 2nd Earl was one of the principal Secretaries of State for Scotland in 1682. He was loyal to King James II and followed him to France. He was outlawed in 1694 and forfeited in 1695.
