MacThomas Ancient Tartan. MacThomas Ancient is a bright green-based tartan with shades of blue and purple. Making up the Confederation of Clan Chattan and founded by Thomas, younger and natural son of the 6th Chief of Clan Mackintosh this clan frequently took the name of MacCombie. They were regarded as a sept of the Mackintoshes, though one school of thought has them as a branch of the MacKenzies: perhaps because of the ‘Coinnich’ in their Gaelic patronymic.
