The name can be traced back a considerable time in the various spellings. The earliest being that of Patrick Allisonne del Conte de Berwyk in 1298. The Allison tartan first appeared in the late nineteenth century and was registered in 1882. The setting used by Lochcarron is only one of two officially recognized settings.
